When Sophie came to, there was so much noise in the room.  She was carried from the corner she had slumped in and taken into another room. People were everywhere.

“Hey… hey”

Someone shook her rather harshly till she fully opened her eyes.

“What happened here? Where’s he? WHERE’S HE?”

This time she was slapped across the face. HARD

She woke up then.

“Huh? I don’t… what are you talking about?”

The tall man in the suit leaned forward to take a closer look at her.

She leaned back instinctively..

“What happened here?”

“How should I know? I just… hey that’s true. I just remember inhaling something and… wait, what happened?”

“Well that’s what I’m trying to find out from you?”

“Did you or did you not hear me say that I was knocked out?”

He sized her up, not fully trusting her.

“He’s gone.”

“Say what?”

“I said he’s gone. Tell me where he is!”

“Say what?”

He reached out to hit her again, but she held his hand, eyes hard as stone.

She got on her feet.

“I agreed to go on with this plan, cos I had no choice. Without him, there’s no plan. So right now I advise that you dedicate your strength and spit, with which you have thoroughly soiled my face, to finding him.”

RB was slightly taken aback. He had heard she had some balls, but this?

He released the pressure from his hand and just as she dropped her hands, he grabbed her by the neck and lifted her a few inches off the ground.

She panicked just then, scrambling wildly to get his hands off.

He wasn’t fazed; he just kept his cold eyes on her. Just when she felt like she was passing out, he flung her across the room, just like a doll.

She hit the wall and collapsed in a heap on the ground.

Before she could move, he had walked over to where she was and yanked her hair.

“If you ever talk to me like that again….”

“Sir”

Both pair of eyes turned to the door, where a man stood.

“The blackout also affected the cameras sir, we have nothing.”

“Shit!”

He released her hair and she fell down in a heap.

“You’re going home and you’re going to stay there till something comes up. We have to find him before he remembers anything, else; it’s over for all of us. Let me know if he contacts you.”

And with that he strode out of the room, leaving her right there on the ground.

She slowly got up, swiping blood from the side of her face.  She knew she had provoked him, but it was worth it.

She walked out to her car and drove out into the night.

As he left the room, he paused and said to the man following at his heels.

“Make sure she’s followed and monitored at all times. Something doesn’t smell right.”

“Yes sir.”

 He had a thousand questions running through his mind as the van sped on.

Why was he kept in that place? Away from who or what? So those doctors were fakes? Or hired for the purpose? Sophie, was she really his wife? Who was she?

WHO THE HECK WAS HE?

He wasn’t sure he could trust these guys either. For all he knew, he was being kidnapped right now

He had a headache.

They drove on for about twenty minutes, during which he struggled not to sleep off. There was no way he was missing any second of this.

He felt the van finally slowdown and come to a halt.

The guy at the back with him jumped up and opened the door.

“This way sir”

He gave him a double take. Sir?

He was assisted out of the van by two other men from outside.

His strength was returning slowly.  

“This way sir.”

Sir again? He was really puzzled.

“Hold on. Please stop. Stop!”

One of them reached out to hold his shoulder.

“Sir, you’re safe now. “

“Safe from who? Who are you? Who am I really?”

They looked momentarily baffled.

“Errm, you’re the President Sir.”
