Robert laughed out loud as the others just stared and watched.
“You guys have got to be kidding me!”
“We’re not.”
“Uh huh… okay really now, what do you really want from me?”
“What do we…?”
“Yes. What’s all this president talk? I don’t believe a word of it. I think I was better off at that fake hospital; at least I didn’t have to listen to this much crap! Besides, it was sort of fun arguing with your non-existent twin!”
He sat down and crossed his legs, waiting for their reaction.
There was none at first.
Sophie just stared at him and then at the other man.
She suddenly stood up and faced him.
“My name is Sophie; we’ve been married for seven years, seven months and twenty-five days. You have been the President for two years and five months now, and you are a good man, a good President, a great husband and a wonderful father!”
Robert sat up. “I have a…”
“I am not going to seat here and wait for your memory to come back while another man destroys all that we’ve worked for.” She pointed at the muted TV. “That man right there, that man… he hates your guts and we don’t have a lot of time before he brings the walls crumbling down.”
He was speechless at this point.
“I will do anything necessary to fix you. Anything.”
He was about to speak when he felt something heavy slam into his head.
“I’m sorry Mr. President” the other man said, as he went unconscious.
They quickly laid him on the couch and watched him for a few seconds.
“You’re sure this will work?” Sophie asked.
“No ma’am.” Lanre replied.
“What?”
“It’s worth the shot.”
“It’s worth the shot.” She repeated.

The President got out of the meeting room and headed straight for the car. Thankfully, he didn’t have to smile and wave at anybody as it was a few minutes past two in the morning.
He sank into his seat and shut his eyes; a short nap definitely wouldn’t be a bad idea.
His phone vibrated. He ignored it for a few seconds, willing the caller to leave him in peace. But that wasn’t going to happen.
“Yes, RB”
He listened for a few seconds.
“Say what?” His eyes flew open.
On the other end of the line, RB was explaining what happened.
“I don’t give a damn about how you go about it. JUST FIND HIM!!!”
Richard slammed the phone shut.
“Robert, where the heck are you now?”
===========================================================================
He read through the file in front of him as the car sped through the night. When he was done, he instructed the driver to clear off the road. The other cars following them did same.
He stepped out, and with a cigarette lighter in his hand, burnt a lone sheet of paper and waited till the wind scattered the fragments before stepping back into the car.
“Everything okay Mr. President?”
He looked at RB and nodded.
When his eyes moved to the lighter he had just placed on the seat, he said “Above your pay grade I’m afraid.”
RB nodded, spoke into his radio and the car moved on.
A few minutes later, there was a loud screeching noise and suddenly the car was spinning in the air and…
ROBERT jumped up from his slumber, head throbbing horribly from where he had been smacked. He was immediately aware of gunshots going off somewhere close by.
Sophie appeared in his line of sight. “You’re up? Good. We need to move. Now!”
She and Lanre helped him to his feet and hurriedly headed for the door.
“What’s happening? Are those…”
“Yes, gunshots. RB located us much earlier than we expected.”
“RB! I know that name.”
“You remember?”
“I…”
The explosion sent them all slamming into the wall and he lost consciousness again.
“… this has to work. The drug has already been tested; I don’t think we have any other option at this time.”
He listened to the voice at the other end of the phone.
“Yes I know. He’ll need me alive. Losing my memory is the safest way right now. Sophia has been roped in already, Sophie knows what she needs to.”
…
“Fine. I should be out by then. Just play along as agreed, I will communicate with you when the effects wear off.”
“I know Richard. Do be careful. Bye.”
Robert quickly swallowed the tablets and washed his hands before heading out of the facility.
He headed for the car with his security personnel.
